Our Story

How it all started...

The Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded in 1846 by 45 Christians. The congregation was organized by Rev. Henry Baker, who served as the pastor for both Duncansville and First Lutheran Church of Altoona until 1857. The church has grown steadily over the years, currently boasting approximately 300 members and being in excellent financial condition. Rev. Isaac Krider was the church's pastor in1890, making him the longest-serving pastor in its history. The church has had a total of 12 pastors in the three-quarters of a century since its establishment, and it continues to be a thriving congregation in the community.

Expanding the vision...

We believe in being an active and engaged member of our community. We are committed to serving those in need and making a positive impact in our neighborhood and beyond. Throughout the year, we organize and participate in various community events, volunteer initiatives, and outreach programs that reflect our values and mission. From feeding the hungry to supporting local organizations and charities, we are dedicated to spreading God's love and compassion to all of creation. Join us in making a difference and being a force for good in our community!

Where we are headed...

At DELC, we are committed to being an all-welcoming, inclusive, and all-serving church, just as Jesus wanted. We believe that God's love extends to all of creation, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, or any other characteristic that makes us unique. We strive to create a space where everyone feels welcome, loved, and accepted, and where we can all come together to worship, learn, and serve. Through programs like our new All Creation Pet Pantry and other initiatives, we aim to make a positive impact in our community and reflect God's love and compassion to all. Join us in our mission and become a part of our community of faith!
